Funeral Etiquette – Covering A Casket With The Flag

When the flag of the United States of America is used to cover a casket at a funeral, the flag should be placed on the casket so the union, or blue field, is at the head and over the left shoulder of the deceased.  Remove the flag before lowering the casket into the ground and protect it from ever touching the ground.
