A handbag should never be placed on the table. The table is considered a clean eating surface and the bottom of a handbag is not clean.
While dining, a lady should place her handbag on her lap or on the floor to the right side of her feet or chair. Since we enter and exit a chair from the right, only she will have to be careful not to trip over her own handbag.
